The Many Adventures of April

Unless you live under a rock, these are the things that you have been hearing about on the news.  Even if you never watch TV, the front page of the  Sunday Detroit Free Press had both of these in the headlines.

So to start with the first one, it is March Madness time.  Yesterday was the Selection Show, so my bracket is all ready.  I kinda like Kansas winning it all.  I think that the bracket they are in will show them off to be a good team and I think they can beat everyone in their bracket.  I know that Ohio State is the number 1 overall, but all my Maize and Blue blood could not let me put them winning it all.  Speaking of Maize and Blue, gotta love the fact that they got in.  Plus, you have to love the fact that you can watch every game on TV.

And now on the biggest story of the week, month and probably year!

Nuclear Radiation!!!

I have to be honest, it scares me.  I feel like we are watching a movie, however it is on the news!  I am worried about it.  I understand that this is different from the disaster in Chernobyl but I can’t help thinking that it could be the same if not worse. In Chernobyl in 1986 there was an actual explosion of the nuclear core inside the reactor.  In Japan just the buildings are having explosions.  I understand that they are working as hard as they can to get it under control however, that doesn’t make me feel much better about the whole thing.  I wonder how open the Japanese government is being with the whole situation, they are saying that they seem to have things under control however, they are evacuating people from a larger and larger area around the plants.

I guess another part of me is scared because this is not something I understand at all.  I am a smart person and know lots of stuff but there are still things I am finding I don’t have any idea about.  Nuclear power, radiation and reactors seem like something I would never care anything about and then something like this happens.  Maybe I can find the book Nuclear power for Dummies.

PJ and I were married.

What can I say?  It was rainy which is better than it being cold (like it is in Michigan in Feb).  However, I can say that it was a wonderful day.  And nothing major happened (which is always nice)

Every wedding has a few stumbling blocks, but I have to say ours was wonderful.  But maybe it was because it was my wedding.  I am sure everyone says it about their own.

So more about that day…

We moved it up from the end of August until Feb.  because of my aunt.  I was nervous she would not be able to be there and that was one of the things I wanted more than anything.  The other being a chocolate fountain (that will come later though).  So the only weekend that PJ would be in town was the weekend of the 17th so we went with that.

PJ’s family came in on the Friday before the wedding and we had fun with them.  Including a UDM basketball game, dinner at IHOP and a trip to Chuck e Cheese.

On Sunday, we woke up and it was raining (fun I know) but things got off to a good start.  Then PJ’s brother walked into the place we were having the wedding and the tux place had given him the wrong pants size.  My mom saved the day with a quick few sewing skills.  The wedding was beautiful except for the 3 year old who was laying on the floor crying and who keep walking up kissing PJ’s butt.

The reception was wonderful!  We had more food than anyone would ever have needed.  Chicken Parm, spaghetti, salad, veggie tray, fruit and then we had cake and a chocolate fountain, plus all the goodies that went with it.  We ended up taking most of the cake home and eating it over the next week.  It was AWESOME though.  Plus, I have to say, we had GREAT food at our wedding.  PJ and I have gone back to the restaurant (1 Under in Livonia)

It was a wonderful day!!!

And has been a wonderful 3 years.  I am lucky to have married my best friend and the most wonderful person in the world!

2011

Posted on: January 30, 2011

Yes, I know that it is the end of January and that I have not written since before Christmas.  Somehow the last month seems to have gotten away from me.

Oh wait I know how.  PJ working and traveling, the girls are busy, busy at work, book club, crafting, and so many other things that are just to many to mention.  Plus, on top of that add the holidays and people being sick.

The last 2 weeks have been especially stressful.  I am worried about PJ he is going though some pretty heavy stuff in his life right now.  He is not really the person to talk about it and I want him to be ok with it all.  And know that I am here if and when he needs me.  So last weekend the girls and I drove to Youngstown Ohio to spend the night with him.  The girls LOVE to stay in hotels and I think it helped that we had made the trip.  I also love to make these trips with him too.  It shows the basketball team, his bosses and the team coaches that as a family we are behind him.  Plus, it shows the girls what it is like to be a college athlete.  They really like the girls on the team and the team loves the girls.

Put on top of that the fact that last week I got a cold, and I mean a cold.  I got to Youngstown and I am sure that I was running a fever.  On Weds and Thursday of this week I hardly had a voice.  N loved it!!!  Then on Thursday I was featured in a Nanny blog, so that everyone could read about me as a nanny.  It was so awesome!!!

Now on top of being sick still.  J came here on Friday and had the same cold.  I feel so bad because I know that I probably gave it to her.  She hardly slept on Friday night, and that is hard for a mom to deal with.

Hopefully, this week will be better.  Especially since I am sure it can’t go down a whole lot.

So much for that trying to post everyday thing.  Even once a week is seeming to slip away.

I guess maybe that is because everything has been so BUSY!  I am sure many of you are the same way but I can’t remember things going by this fast even last year.

So I thought maybe I should post again.  My friend wrote a post on her journal about her first yoga class and that made me miss my yoga class.  I am also reading the book “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert.  I am reading about her time in India.  She is working with a spiritual advisor, and doing lots of mediating and yoga.  So I have decided that I will once again work on my yoga.  I LOVED it so much when I took the class.  But the teacher is no longer teaching, and we really don’t have the money to look for another class, so I am thinking that I am going to work on it with the book that I have and the show I found on Fit TV that has it on.  Or maybe someone would love to get me a yoga tape for Christmas.  Yes, that would be wonderful!!!

Only a few weeks until Thanksgiving and that means a little over a month until Christmas.  I have started to make the list of all the gifts I will be getting.  I am so excited.  I am sure the people will love all of them.  The girls are getting excited and so am I.

It is 9/11/01,  the day your children and grandchildren will look at you and ask where you were when you heard about the World Trade Center, just as we did with our parents and grandparents when JFK was killed or when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

So where were you?

I was a freshman at Albion College.  I had been there a total of 2 weeks.  I was coming down the hall from my shower (gotta love community showers) when I heard someones TV on talking about it.  At the time (I am embarrassed to admit) I thought it was just a bomb like someone had planted there years before.  So I went to Spanish 101 (my first and only 8am class of my college career).  When my friend came to meet me to go to breakfast with her.  This is where we heard about it for the first time.  We almost ran back to my room to watch more about it.  As I turned on the TV this is when the 2 plane flew into the other tower.  I immediatly got on the phone with my mom, to see if she was watching.  They were all standing in her lobby watching it unfold.  That is when more and more people start coming into our room (it was the local hang-out).  I remember not knowing what to do, I think mostly because of shock.  I remember asking myself over and over “Who would do this?”  “Why did they do this?”  Not believing that someone could actually do that.  Kind of paralzed.  Many of our classes got cancelled that day but I remember going to my Into to Public Policy class (at that time I was a Political Science major), I went and all we did was sit and watch the “Big TV” (which is now the same size we have in our living room) in the student center.  That night on campus there was a GIANT candlelight vigil on campus.  It was nice to see everyone there, no matter what they believe or who they were.

That day changed so many things in the world.  Not until I married PJ (who is from NYC) did I realize how much I was unaffected by 9/11.  Yes, I have to go to the airport an extra hour because of security.  But I was not in NYC or have anyone on those planes or in those buildings.

PJ was a junior at Quinnipiac in Connecticut.  His mom worked right next door to the Twin Towers at the post office.  She was leaving work as the first plane hit the building.  He did not hear from her for almost 4 hours that day.  When PJ’s mom talks about it, it really hits home at how much no one knew what was going on or what to think about what was happening.  That was a scary day for her and many other people who lived and worked in that area.

Jahsalynn’s birthday was AWFUL!!!  Her mom was so mean to me, I did not do anything to her but she was always whispering and laughing at me.  It is horrible.  I have never done anything to her, if anything I have been WONDERFUL.  I could not have taken care of them like I have been doing.  It just sucks.

And then I went into work this morning and it was all made up for.  My babies were so cute.  A could not get N to wear anything except his fireman hat in her fashion show.  She was so mad and it was making me laugh so hard.  Then they were serving me snacks at it.  But N kept coming over to eat all of them.  It was great.

As for my coupon book I never did find it so I had to go out and get another one.  Thank you for the $1 bins at Target, I found the same one only this one is purple so it can’t get much better.

So I lost my coupon book.  I am so upset.  I think I left it at the grocery store in the cart.  I am sure someone probably found it and thought they had hit the jackpot.  Due to the fact that it was full of coupons, probably $100+ of them.  So now I must make up for it and buy a paper every week to get some of the savings back.

No one would have thought of me as a couponing person, I guess.  But now that I am starting it I can’t stop.  It is like a drug.  I wanna save as much money as I can.  However, at the same time I am not as crazy as some of the people who do it.  I only cut the coupons that I need, no way am I carrying around a bunch that I might or might not use.  Plus, there are alot for things that I would never use or think of anyone to give them too.  So I am just sticking to what I have been doing all along.

Things are overall going well here.  Nannypalooza is coming together.  The girls are getting ready for school.  And I am working on getting all their school stuff bought for school.  Soccer season is starting for PJ which means that we will be at UDM a lot.  But the girls love to go there and watch the big girls play.  Jahsalynn has decided that she wants to play in the neighborhood league again.  Which will be good.  We have let them decide but we have wanted them to go back to playing.  Jahsalynn had a lot of fun with it last time.

Another month has gone!  I can’t believe it.  Time goes by so fast, it is ridiculous.

Next month, the girls will be going back to school.  My brother will not be back to Michigan until Thanksgiving.   Our nanny conference is just around the corner.

I never realized how fast time goes and then you look back and it is gone.

The girls start school at the beginning of September.  They are going back to the same school but Abby will have a new teacher.  Hopefully she will do much better this year.

Tim left yesterday to go back home to Dallas and will be not be back to Michigan until Thanksgiving.  We miss him but it was SO great to see him and be able to hang out with him.

Nannypalooza is just around the corner and I am getting a little worried about it.  The sponsorship letters have not gone out neither have the agency letters.  Hopefully after our meeting tomorrow all will be good.  Plus, I am excited because we are continuing to get more and more nannies who want to join Michigan Professional Nanny Association.  Which is exactly what we wanted to happen.

What a great month July was though.  Abby is getting bigger and had her 6th birthday.  My grandpa got his high school diploma (he had to leave high school to join the Marines to help take care of his family) and we had a high school graduation party for him.  Plus, my brother came for a visit.  Along with spending great time with the girls and the rest of my family.

What a wonderful summer this is!  Going by fast but good!

Cedar Point

Posted on: July 1, 2010

So we took kinda of a mini-vacation or a getaway.

It was so wonderful to get away for 3 days.

We started off from Michigan at 9am.  Abby was in our bed at 6:30am waking me up asking if it was 9am yet.  I almost had to throw her out.   We spent Monday on the beach and in the pool.  It was so wonderful to be in the water.  Abby and Jahsalynn are little fish now and they had a wonderful time.  Then at night we went into the park for a few hours.  After the light show we walked back to the hotel down the boardwalk.  That is when the girls noticed that after dark.  That is all we heard about for the next day.

On Tuesday, we went to the water park in the morning.  Again, I am renaming both of the girls “fish A” and “fish B”.  Abby had to have a life jacket on to go into the wave pool and one of the lazy rivers.  Once she realized that she did not need PJ and I with the life jacket on she was off and swimming.  It was so great!  After the water park we decided to play miniature golf.  Abby and Jahsalynn are 2 totally different people when it comes to sports.  Abby really could careless about them.  She had us cracking up because all she wanted to do was keep score vs. playing the game.  Jahsalynn is so darn competitive it is CRAZY!!!  When she was behind she was so upset.  They were making me laugh.

Yesterday, was a little cooler than the other two days so we did not stay as long at the water park.  But we did have lots of fun riding all the rides at Cedar Point and of course, eating Chick-fil-a, MY FAVORITE!!!  We did not leave Cedar Point until 9:15pm last night and I think everyone except PJ and I were asleep by 9:30pm.

What a wonderful and relaxing Vacation!!!

So I decided on Weds that my house is a mess and I need to get it under control.  I had all ready made a plan to throughly clean every room of the house this year, including the basement and the girls room (both of which I have been dreading).  so I was playing on facebook, instead of cleaning.  When I noticed my friend had commented about her cleaning on The FlyLady’s facebook page.  So I decided to investigate a little further.  Well come to find out it was a good idea to.    What she does is help you to establish a routine in your cleaning and getting yourself organized.  So I started with my first step yesterday, getting my sink shiny.  Yes, this required me to unload the dishwasher and then fill it back up and start it.  Well I got the sink shiny before I went to bed.  It felt really good because then I knew I was not waking up to a sink full of dishes.  So far I am doing very well.  However, it is only the second day.  But I found some really helpful tips on the website and her facebook page.  I am going to try to stick with this.

Plus, it has helped me make a few other decisions, like the girls tomorrow start a chore chart.  This is things that will have to be done either before bed or before they go home.  I figure if we start it now we will have the whole summer to get into this routine and it will help us all keep up on the chores around here.

I will let you know if I continue and how it is going.

Check it out!  http://www.flylady.net/
